Farmer Bram

Farmer Bram

In the land of Farmer Bram

Bram, also known as Brammetje by those who know him well, was born and raised on a farm in the Beemsterpolder. He is small in stature, but brave. He has red cheeks from being outdoors all the time.

Bram always wears overalls and boots. When it's hot, he wears a cap. If it's cold a hat. He has a clear view of rural life. Bram has big blue fun eyes and is always full of wonder. He has respect for his land and crop. He also has dogs, chickens, ducks and a few goats on his farm.

Bram works diligently all seasons of the year with care and attention. In the spring he sows and plants all vegetables. In the summer he harvests some vegetables, others in the fall. He knows a lot about growing crops. The care for his soil and his daily activities are mainly determined by the weather.

Bram is surprised that people from the city sometimes know so little about where our food comes from. That they think that you buy milk in a carton in the supermarket, and that there are prepackaged lettuce and meat ready to take with you. And that they don't understand that you just can't eat some products all year round because it's a seasonal product.

What strikes him is that when he tells people what he does, how he does it and why he does it that way, they understand him better. And that they get more respect for the beautiful products he grows on the old heavy Beemster clay.

Bram takes you step by step into his world: the land of Boertje Bram.

From planting his potatoes to preparing a beautiful regional dish. He thought long and hard about how to handle this. Fortunately, he got help from farmer Astrid and supermarket lady Monique. Together with him they came up with a way to share this with the big outside world.

If you want to follow the adventures of farmer Bram, keep an eye on the Facebook and Instagram pages of Beemster Valery, Jeelink, Jumbo Monique Heerhugowaard and Jumbo Monique Zwaagdijk.

Both partners are connected by the Jeelink network and believe it is important that more attention is paid to food education, the short chain* and everything that precedes before a product is available in the supermarket.

*Short chain is the short connection between farmer and consumer, which means less transport and a better price for the producer.
